How To Make A Good Shot

What are you doing this weekend? Does Saturday afternoon virtually guarantee that you'll be found at the football field, the baseball diamond, or even the swim meet, depending on the season? What if you could be making money enjoying the same activities you are already attending anyway?

Most organized sports leagues schedule group and individual photos for all teams involved. I know a woman whose three children play almost every team sport the YMCA offers. And she buys every team photo taken of every one of those sports. If you are handy with professional photography equipment, or if you are willing to learn, you could hit a home run with athletic photography.

To begin, check into various sports photography associations. They can offer training, expert advice, valuable business tips, and the latest info on equipment and technology. Receiving certification can lend credibility to your business.

To succeed in the team sports photography business you need to create a good product and good relationships. This type of photography is not terribly creative. Shooting dozens of different subjects in the same setting over and over may get tedious from time to time. But remember, it is repetitive only to the photographer. The subject takes just one photo each season. Make it a fun experience for the athlete and you will probably have better photos. Also, you will have created a good relationship with the league, which will get you invited back for the next season.

Action shots can add excitement to the job. Some companies invest in digital cameras and the technology needed to print on sight at sporting events. During tournaments photographers capture the action on the field. Their work showcases the blood, sweat and tears of victory (and sometimes defeat). Teams and parents view proofs at a booth set up on the premises. Customers pay cash and these great shots are printed on demand. What an awesome souvenir! If parents have to choose between a $20 T-shirt and a $20 action shot, which co you think they'll take home?

It used to be that parks, playgrounds and backyards were filled on the weekends with neighborhood kids forming pick-up games. Those kids grew up with fond memories of good times, but never had the opportunity to preserve them on film. Now-a-days children are joining leagues and club teams in every activity imaginable. Whether it is cheerleading, karate, tennis, barrel racing, or golf kids as young as three are joining in the fun. Moreover, parents everywhere want to hold onto those memories.

If you're already a sports nut and if you are willing to learn how to create quality photographs, capturing memories could be a winning opportunity for you. Play the game right and you could really score big with sports photography.
