Women's Wrestling Women's Amatuer Wrestling is gaining toeholds due to Title IX. In 1993, the University of Minnesota-Morris started the first Women's Collegiate Wrestling program. The United States has been sending women wrestlers to the Women's Freestlye World Championships since 1989. Women's Professional Wrestling has evolved from WWE's usage of women as girlfriends to male wrestlers. As the male wrestlers got involved in disputes, their girlfriends got involved too. In the late 1990s, Women's Professional Wrestling morphed into the WWE Divas.
